Choose an image format using transparency, quality loss, browser compatibility, editing needs, and a concrete delivery target—not file size alone.

JPG for compatible photographs

JPEG is broadly accepted and efficient for photos, but every lossy re-encode can add ringing, block artifacts, and banding. It cannot store transparency or animation.

PNG for exact edges and alpha

PNG preserves pixels losslessly and supports full transparency, making it dependable for logos, diagrams, UI captures, and text. Photographs often become much larger than equivalent JPG, WebP, or AVIF files.

WebP and AVIF for modern delivery

WebP balances broad modern support, alpha, and compact photo output. AVIF can be smaller at similar visual quality and supports HDR-related features, but encoding is slower and legacy software support is less predictable.

HEIC as an input format

The dedicated HEIC-to-JPG tool includes a local HEIC/HEIF decoder separate from the general image workbench. It exports the primary still image; Live Photo video, depth maps, edit history, and some wide-gamut metadata are not carried into JPG.

Does JPG to PNG improve image quality?

No. PNG prevents additional loss on later saves, but it cannot reconstruct detail already discarded by JPEG compression.

What happens to transparent pixels in JPG?

JPEG has no alpha channel. These tools composite transparent pixels onto a fixed white background before encoding.

Is HEIC supported everywhere on the site?

No. HEIC/HEIF input is intentionally enabled for the dedicated HEIC-to-JPG converter; the general uploader advertises only its own guaranteed formats.
