Photo preparation

Prepare an ID photo to exact dimensions and file size

Official photo rules vary by country and document. Use the issuing authority's current dimensions, framing, background, recency, and file requirements rather than a generic passport preset.

Workflow

  1. Copy the official specification

Record width, height, units, aspect ratio, accepted format, byte limit, head position, background, and whether digital retouching is prohibited.

  2. Crop before resizing

Set the required aspect ratio, position the face without stretching it, then resize to the exact pixel dimensions and export a new file.

  3. Compress only as needed

Use a compatible format and the highest quality that fits the limit, then submit the downloaded copy rather than a preview or screenshot.

Limits to understand

These tools can change framing, pixels, format, and size, but cannot evaluate identity, lighting, expression, biometric geometry, print calibration, or an authority's acceptance decision.

Privacy mode

Cropping and resizing run locally for supported inputs. A government or application portal receives the photo only when you later choose to upload the finished file there.

Verify the result

Confirm exact pixel dimensions and saved size, view the face at 100%, check that no stretching or unintended rotation occurred, and compare the final file with the issuing authority's live checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a passport-photo preset from another country?

Only if every requirement matches. Aspect ratio, head size, background, format, and byte rules can differ even when printed dimensions look similar.

Should I remove metadata?

It may reduce incidental location or device data, but some submission systems use orientation or color information. Verify the cleaned copy visually before submitting.
